A New Season Reset

As summer draws to a close and we move into a new season, it can feel like the perfect time to get back into routines that help us feel well from the inside out.

Perhaps the holidays have meant more meals out, a little more alcohol, less movement or simply a break from your usual routine. You may be feeling a little more puffy, bloated, heavy or sluggish than usual.

Rather than turning to restrictive “detoxes” or quick fixes, at Inner Glow Collective we prefer to focus on supporting the incredible systems your body already has – including your lymphatic system.

What does your lymphatic system actually do?

We often talk about blood circulation, but far less about our lymphatic circulation.

The lymphatic system is an important network of vessels, tissues and lymph nodes that helps maintain normal fluid balance, supports immune function and transports lymph fluid around the body.

Unlike your cardiovascular system, it doesn’t have the heart acting as a central pump. Lymphatic flow is supported by movement, muscle contraction and breathing – which is why some of the simplest daily habits can play a valuable role.

So what can we do to support healthy lymphatic flow?

1. Keep moving

Your lymphatic system loves movement.

Walking, strength training, stretching or simply getting up regularly throughout the day all create muscular contractions that help encourage the movement of lymph fluid.

It doesn’t have to mean a hard workout. A daily walk, taking the stairs, stretching between periods of sitting or dancing around the kitchen all count!

Think consistency over intensity.

2. Breathe deeply

Here’s one you may not immediately associate with lymphatic health: your breath.

Slow, diaphragmatic breathing creates changes in pressure through the chest and abdomen, helping support the movement of lymphatic fluid.

It also has the added benefit of encouraging us to slow down and relax – particularly helpful when modern life leaves us constantly rushing from one thing to another.

Try taking just a few minutes each day to breathe slowly into your abdomen, allowing your tummy to expand as you inhale and soften as you exhale. A tiny daily habit with whole-body benefits.

3. Stay hydrated

Lymph is largely fluid, so maintaining good hydration is another simple way of supporting the body’s normal circulation and fluid balance.

Rather than suddenly drinking litres of water at the end of the day, aim to sip regularly throughout the day. Water, herbal teas and water-rich foods such as cucumber, berries and melon can all contribute to your overall fluid intake.

4. Don’t forget your fibre

Fibre might not immediately spring to mind when talking about lymphatic health, but it plays an important supporting role in digestive and overall health.

Adequate fibre helps maintain regular bowel movements and supports a healthy gut microbiome – both important parts of the body’s normal waste-elimination processes.

  • Chia and flax seeds
  • Berries
  • Beans and lentils
  • Vegetables
  • Wholegrains
  • Nuts and seeds

Rather than thinking about “detox foods”, think about giving your body the nutrients and fibre it needs to do its own job effectively. Check our socials for  deliciousfiber rich chai pudding and smoothie recipes

5. Make stress management part of your wellbeing routine

Stress is another reason we love looking at health as a whole rather than focusing on one individual system.

When life gets busy, movement can decrease, sleep can suffer, our food choices may change and even our breathing becomes shallower.

Building small moments of calm into your day – whether that’s walking, meditation, breathwork, time outside or simply five quiet minutes with a cup of tea – can help support your overall wellbeing.

What about Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

This September clinic owner Kirsty is  taking this philosophy one step further at IGC with specialist training in Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Lymphatic Facial techniques.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is very different from a traditional deep massage. It uses gentle, carefully sequenced techniques designed to support healthy lymphatic flow and normal fluid movement.

And for Kirsty, this isn’t about body contouring or another beauty quick fix.

It fits into something I’ve believed throughout my career: looking and feeling well starts from within.

Skin health doesn’t exist in isolation. Movement, nutrition, sleep, stress, hormones and our overall health all form part of the bigger picture – which is why bringing lymphatic wellness into IGC feels like such a natural next step.

Your new-season reset doesn’t need to be complicated

As we head into autumn, forget punishing detoxes and all-or-nothing health kicks.

Move your body.

Breathe deeply.

Drink your water.

Eat your fibre.

Manage your stress.

Give your body the support it needs to do what it was designed to do.

Simple, consistent habits – that’s our kind of wellness at IGC.
